How Portland Church is Changing in 2020

In case you missed it, we sent out our first email blast yesterday morning at 10am! If you didn’t receive this article in your email, fill out the Keep In Touch form at the bottom of the page to stay updated with all our church communications!

We’re Improving How We Communicate

PCOC for the last decade has seen some pretty incredible things happen.

From new friendships and jobs, to new families and wisdom, God has blessed us with so many things to be grateful for. Now, we have one more little thing to be grateful for: the Internet!

Through the Internet, not only are we able to use the internet to more effectively communicate with our favorite people, but we’re also able to reach more people than we ever have before! The better we communicate, the more people know us and the more people are able to hear about God.

In 2020 we are going to utilize our online presence to the best of our ability.

While this means a few things will be changing, what won’t be changing is our passion to grow towards Christ as a fellowship of believers. Help us make an impact this year! See how our new website can help us do more!

The BIG FOUR - How we’re changing

#1. The Website is the TRUTH, the whole TRUTH, and nothing but the TRUTH

Instead of checking Facebook, texting a friend, or finding your notes from last Sunday to learn about when we’re meeting, ALL information on when and where we are meeting will now be provided on the website. The church calendar, found under the ‘Come Together’ page will have everything you need to know about when and where we are meeting.

It also provides you a useful link on how you are able to download the church calendar to your personal device, so that you don’t always have to open the website! It will now be the source of TRUTH for all events related to our church community.

So stop asking your friend for info about Friday’s event. CHECK THE CALENDAR!

#2. Monthly Newsletters…. They’re coming.

In 2020, one thing we love doing is letting other people do the work for us. After all, isn’t the internet here to make our lives easier? So, let us help you out by delivering important and upcoming events straight to your inbox.

Starting February 1st we will be sending out a MONTHLY NEWSLETTER containing the important information you need to know about that upcoming month. Never miss another potluck, talent show, or going away party. We’ll tell you all about the important things you need to know about (plus… we’ll even include a couple new blog posts from last month that you may have missed!… aren’t we so helpful?!)

If you got this email, then you’re subscribed and will receive these upcoming newsletters. If you know someone who didn’t get this email, tell them to add their email to the Keep In Touch form at the bottom of every page on our website.

#3. ENJOY FACEBOOK GROUPS, BUT DON’T RELY ON THEM

“Why would I say something so controversial… yet so brave?” BECAUSE.

Change is hard! And we’re making every effort to get all of us to use our website like the bible. Well, you know, the bible is more important, of course. But if we all use the website and get the public to find us on our website, more people will have a chance to get to know us. And we want people to know us, right?

From now on, please use our blog. Our blog called The Weekly is a collaborative environment where people who need to share related to the church will SHARE that information. Know that every post you make on a facebook group, no matter how small, reduces the amount of impact it can have on the community around you. People can’t join if they don’t know you’re meeting! So let them know you’re meeting!

For help transitioning out of your Facebook Group, please reach out to me (Jenna Palmer) and I will be able to help you become an active blog member in no time.

#4. Beware! THE BLOG

… Or rather “Be Aware” because from now on our BLOG this is where we will be communicating all of our church related information. From announcements, updates, and event sign ups to ministry-specific news, testimonies, and great quiet time resources, our blog, known as ‘The Weekly’, will now have everything you need to know about what’s going on at church.

If you have something you want to publicize to the whole church, or maybe you just heard a great podcast and it changed the way you think of scripture, share it with us through the ‘Submit Content’ portion of our blog. We want to provide weekly content on our website for anyone in the world to see how we operate.

These are the four biggest things that we will be changing about our church wide communication. We truly believe that by adapting our use of the church website, we will more easily be able to reach out to our community and show them how much we truly love God and one another.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask your group leader for more information on how the website works. They’ll be more than happy to help you understand how to use the website to the best of your ability.

Thank you so much for reading, and we can’t wait to see how these changes bring us closer together and closer to Christ in 2020.
