But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light .

Our Mission

The Portland Church of Christ is a fellowship of believers who desire to follow Jesus. We do not have any denominational affiliation but we try to love and co-operate as best we can with the body of Christ universal. We have no creed; we believe reading the bible with an open heart and faith will lead us to find God’s will. We strive to be a family of believers known by our love for one another. We want to help those seeking the Lord but who have no community, and we strive to serve the communities where we find ourselves, whether they are seekers of Christ or not. Our weekly reunions are spirit-filled, and we try to made the messages practical and useful in everyday life.

If you’re a seeker and hope to find a community that will welcome you, come and see what we’re all about.

Steve and Lisa johnson

Steve and Lisa Johnson lead the congregation here in Portland, and they serve the community in a variety of ways. Not only are they an inspiring couple, but they continue to lead our congregations toward a more loving, united community that reflects God in everything they do. Having led churches all over the world, the Johnsons bring our church Godly wisdom, incomparable grace, and biblical truth, nurtured by their years of experience in the full time ministry.

While Steve is internationally known for his authoring of the musical “Upside Down”, Lisa is just as well known for her intimate study of women’s roles in the church.

Both are incredible leaders and we are blessed to have them as a part of our congregation.

We want to make sure your first experience is a great one!

Below you will find answers to the questions we get tasked the most

How do i know if we have east/west services?

East Side Services: We meet at Highlands Christian Center 7600 NE Glisan at 2 PM every Sunday. Parking is in the back of the building.

West Side Services: We have two services every first Sunday, with a 10 AM morning service at 15245 SW 116th Ave, Portland, OR 97224

What time should I get there?

We suggest arriving about 10-15 minutes early to service so you’re able to find a seat before everything begins. With this in mind, East Side Services normally starts at 2:00 PM whereas West Side Services begin at 10 AM but is very flexible.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Sunday services will always include reading of scripture aloud. We do suggest bringing a Bible with you so you’re able to read along with the message, however if you don’t have one (or forgot yours) don’t worry. For our communion portion of the service, we provide either homemade unleavened bread alongside small communion cups of grape juice or prepackaged communion wafer and grape juice together.

Do you do things during the week?

A number of groups meet for bible discussion and community gathering throughout the week. If you’re interested in becoming a part of one of these groups, please send us a note or just call Pastor Lisa or Steve at 971-322-9886.

What do I do If I’m interested in learning more about god outside of church events?

We are more than willing to help anyone learn more about God through a personal bible study if they are interested. Reach out to us in person on Sundays or through our Contact page and we would love to pair you with a friend who can walk you through the studying out of scripture.

Don’t see your question listed above? Reach out to us through our contact page and we will get back to you within 1-2 business days with your response.
